R.E.M.
Great Woods - Mansfield, MA
2008-06-13 (Friday, June 13)
AT933 hypercardioid capsules > 3 wire battery box > Edirol R-09
Sec 2 Row Z, Seat 27, Absolutely DFC. (ticket: thanks to Gnarls Barkley being in Europe)
A great show. Moron factor was low in comparison to Petty the following
night. However, my buffers to the right were Modest Mouse fans and left around
Houston. So at that point, Mr Tommy Bahama and his family became the bane of my
existence. Mr. B randomly clapped 3 times in a row, yelled, and sang a random
line or two. He was with his family, and they decided to start taking pictures,
high fiving, gabbing incessantly, basically doing enough to really kill my groove.
So during Orange Crush I hopped over my seat into the vacant premium box seating (thanks
for leaving early rich people!!) and finished the show in peace and quiet. So you may
notice a few spots where the sound fluctuates from Houston > Orange Crush. Not too
distracting, but I was trying to find a spot elsewhere.
This was my first time seeing R.E.M, after being a fan on and off for 25 years. I
was blown away. It was an amazing night, and I hope to see them again the next
time around. Hopefully it won't be another 25 years. . .
Please do not post, upload, or torrent in mp3 or a lossy format. Please contact me
before "remastering". I think it's fine as is, though a matrix with another source
that may be coming soon would be interesting. . .

Notes:
-Setlist highlights: Circus Envy (10), West Of The Fields (10), Departure (5), Cuyahoga (7), Maps & Legends (5), Get Up (8).
-Before Ignoreland MS notes that his dad told him he is "still pissed about Iran-Contra"
-MS notes Departure "is about an orange colored thunderstorm seen from above on a flight from Singapore to San Sebastian, Spain. This song goes out to my dear departed friend".
-Before Cuyagoga MS notes the first two lines go out to Barack Obama.
-After Driver 8, MS notes the sows they have done the week previous are the hottest they've done outside of South Africa, and even though he is from the south and loves the heat he is glad it's cooler this night. He adds the venue holds a special place in his heart because he met his god-daughter Nora there for the first time. "The reason I thought of Nora and her younger sister, who is also my god daughter, who I met at another venue. Actually I delivered her. Ok, I cut the cord. It doesn't matter it's not germaine to the story. The reason I thought of that is because Nora called me. Actually she texted me to say she was really excited that we were going on the road with The National. She has very, very good tast in music". He ssends the next song out to The National "about the aftermath of hurrican Katrina".
-Standard intro to Electrolite, sent out to Modest Mouse. A more guitar forward mix or maybe I just haven't noticed before.
-Before Maps & Legends MS notes PB has informed him that there are some songs they havent rehearsed yet.
-Before Rockville MM notes his voice is shot from attending the Mission Of Burma show the night before.
-MS notes that Friday the 13th has always been a good day for him, including his grandfather's birthday. He adds that MM doesn't share this opnion. He adds that Pretty persuasion is "about growing up weird in the 1980's". After the song he stetes that he had never before dropped a mic by accident before. (there is a song I didn't note where he was a bit late coming in)
