As always the setlist is taken from Darryl White's incomporable and essential REM Timeline ( www.remtimeline.com - your one stop shop for all matters related to REM shows and setlists).

This is the fourth of the UK shows that I recorded during the Up Tour and the first of the three shows that they played at Stirling Castle.  The weather was appalling - cold, wet and miserable.  In other words, a typical Scottish summer.  Between Sweetness follows and Great Michael talks about how cold he is and how he hadn't been as cold as this since February that year.

I was standing Peter side of the stage about 30 metres back from the PA.  The mic was duck taped to the top of of my umbrella.  I seem to remember being challenged by one of the Security Gorillas (During Wake Up Bomb?) and asked what I was doing.  I can't remember how I responded but it obviously didn't stop those tapes rollin'!  I don't remember this show sounding as good as it actually does.  There's a little bit of bass drum 'thump' but that doesn't hurt  none.

Notes:
-MS gets the crowd to whistle after Wake Up Bomb
-Before The Apologist MS "This song is about some poor guy went through some kind of alternative therapy and became a horrible monster".  After the song he comments on Peter's shirt and goes on to discuss his experiences with dry cleaners while on this tour
-Little static during Everybody Hurts
-After Sweetness Follows MS makes his comments on the weather noted above.  He goes on to say "I usually put on a couple layers of clothes on just to kind of psychically protect myself and also for theatrical excess.  But tonight it was actually because I was fucking freezing".  As he begins to introduce the next song he is interrupted: "What? Pick up the hat?  No.  I have a show to perform here.  You pick up the hat. [giggles]  Talk to your therapist.  Ok I'll pick up the hat. [someone plays the Close Encounters music]  If you think for one second I'm going to put this on my head you got another think coming.  Yeah it's called head lice, we have it in Georgia too".
-Before Walk Unafraid MS notes the Scottish have the best cheekbones.
-MS ad-libs some lyrics to Hope, about Thursdays in Athens.
-Fall On Me is introduced as 'A song that is older than time...and Mel

Gibson".
