Notes:
-MS nails high parts of IDSID
-On a personal level, Fiddler's Green is a sterile venue. It's located between a business park and suburbia so there are loads of rules to appease the neighbors. One of these is that shows have to be over with at an ealy hour. Another is that it has to be super quiet. We got there as early as we could because we had GA tickets and were subjected to an assault of Hootie and the Blowfish blaring from out neighbor's veficle. They achieved far greater db levels than the venue did that night. I think we eventually moved our car.
-Before Welcome To The Occupation MS admits he didn't shave because he thought he would be warmer with a beard. He introduces the song as "an old song that is probably (?)".
-Undertow made it's debut a night prior, but it appears that show was not taped. That makes this night's version the earliest you can hear if you're not Chris Hartsonge.
-Before Crush With Eyeliner MS "So I kind of half expected we were going to get here and it was going to be like 95 degrees and I could walk around in a pair of shorts. And I put in a personal request to Buddha or Mohammed or whatever kind of like a little a direct messase, you know we need some good weather here. But whoever wasn't listening so I guess I fucked up". After the song he suggests if anyone gets cold the should rub up on their neighbor.
-Before Revolution, MS notes he's having a hard time hearing (as was I) and speculates that it is his stocking cap. He goes on to say that Revolution was written in Feb 1994. This might actually be true?
-Before Man On The Moon MS "This next song, usually I talk about it a whole lot but tonight I'm not going to. Instead, do you know those things in public toilets that, it's on the wall, you pull it out. It's made of paper. You pull it out and punch out the middle and you put it on the toilet seat so you don't have to touch anybody else's turds. So my favorite ever graffitti in the whole world, I walked in toilet somewhere in the world, probably in the US, may well have been here for all I know. Walked into the stall and someone had written on that box 'free cowboy hats'. That's pretty damn funny."
-After Country Feedback MS "In the middle of Man On The Moon I walked over to this part of the stage (?) Jesus Christ! I almost fell over! I like it but in New Jersey they (?) But that's cool you know, it's your thing."
-Slide on Finest Worksong but much more subdued in mix.
-After Everybody Hurts, MS invites an old friend he hopes is in the audience backstage.
-As mentioned, the venue has a strict curfew. After ITEOTWAWKI, I think it was PB came out, made some critical remarks of the venue and said they had a few more minutes. So PB & perhaps Scott & Nathan just kind of jammed and made noise until they literally pulled the plug on them. Unfortunately this was not captured on this tape. R.E.M. never played this venue again.
Grade: C
-Audience chatter, wow& flutter early on (at least) muffled sound
