Undoubtedly one of the major factors that surrounds the JEMS archive is the surprise factor and this is confirmed with the great variety of artists that conforms the archive. You will never know what you can find.

And this time, we move away from the 70's and 80's classics to bring you a brand new transfer done by none other than Mike Ziegler.

JEMS caught a lot of shows on R.E.M.’s 1995 tour, including their first-ever appearance in the great outdoors of the Gorge, which is a beautiful place to see a concert and a horrible place to get to and get home from.

We had seen Portland two nights before and Vancouver the night before we drove east for this one with a lot of friends in tow. Needless to say we were a bit worn out for our third show in three nights.

Its a noisy crowd as you might expect from an outdoor venue, but the recording is very clear and close (samples provided) and the band plays a strong, solid if ultimately unspectacular set. I do give them credit for playing as-yet-unreleased material that would later wind up on New Adventures In Hi-Fi. On this night we got “Departure” along with the Monster outtake “Revolution.”

Thanks to Mike Ziegler for doing the transfer and to frogster for the help provided with the track split and the upload.

BK for JEMS
