notes from remtimeline:
notes: Peter Holsapple guests on 'Sloop John B'. Mike Mills & Bill Berry join The dB's on 'Suspicious Minds' during their opening set.
From Fred LeBlanc - "I was at this show. I remember being excited with the inclusion of new songs 'Kohoutek' and 'Old Man Kensey'
and seeing the acapella version of 'Moon River'. It was my first time seeing the band live and while I enjoyed it,
their performance seemed pretty hit-and-miss to me. One song would be great, the next would be ragged and sloppy,
and not in a good way. They seemed like they'd been on the road a while. Still, I had a great time.
During an uncomfortable but ultimately hilarious moment onstage, Peter and Mike got into a screaming match with
Mike yelling "fuck you" repeatedly at Peter. Onstage. In front of the entire audience.
Anyway, at that moment, Peter walked up to Stipe's microphone and said, "excuse me, ladies and gentlemen but
Mike Mills has been abusing me onstage. Can we please get everyone to give a big loud boo to Mike Mills, boooo..."
to which the crowd of nearly 2000 obliges and starts booing Mills. You could see Mike seething.
Peter backed away from Stipe's mic and as Mills walked up to his own mic about to angrily respond to Peter's comment,
Peter starts the beginning notes of 'Pretty Persuasion' sending Mills into a fury while the audience cheered,
completely oblivious to the meltdown onstage. Right then, Stipe grabs an out of tune harmonica and blows
the worst note you've ever heard into the mic, screams "fuck it!" throwing the harmonica behind him
and starts singing the song.
Pretty wild. I remember Bill looking frighteningly haggard that night,
like he'd been out the previous night for the whole night and barely being able to hang on.
He sang the prettiest harmonies to 'Gardening At Night' while looking like death warmed over with a cigarette
dangling out of his mouth.
New Orleans will do that to you, if you let her.

Taper Anonymous here -

I hope that everyone has enjoyed my "TA archive series" as much as I enjoyed reading the comments.
This year marks my 35th year for taping, trading and collecting live concerts.
The last 6 shows (#95-#100) in the TA Series should be considered my "reserve tapes" featuring rare,
sometimes uncirculated captures of my favorite bands. These last shows mark the end to my series.
While these wont be the last postings of mine, it is now time to sit back and watch what other treasures
from my favorite bands get posted. Consider my efforts in the "TA series" to be my "shaking of the trees"
in the hopes that other collectors come out of the woodwork.

Things have changed over the years from snail mail analog trades through Goldmine, to $30 "live CD's",
to the click of a mouse to download a show that was captured less than 24 hours prior.
For many years I have been an unapologetic tape hoarder. This may sound foreign to the youngsters and noobs on here,
but there was a time when concerts were traded minute for minute and not shared freely
unless you were "in" with the "clique" with like rarities.
Sometimes these trades would take months and therefore a long wait to hear a recently played show.
Over the last few years I have had a change of heart by seeing many old school tapers dig into their boxes
of crispy uncirculated D6 masters and unselfishly offer up new "Master series" with many bands that I collect.
Thank you for those that take the time to crawl into your attic to find your old analogs, adjust your azimuth
and transfer, track etc. If you have enjoyed my series and have tapes in your parents basement please consider
reaching out to those on here who have the tools to proper preserve these treasures before it is too late.
If an analog tape was not traded multiple times, there is a chance that it might not ever get digitized
and therefore cease to exist among collectors.

Here we have a completely uncirculated REM Master from the Reckoning tour.
Unfortunately, the recent custodian of the R.H. Master collection could not locate Part 2
which was very likely unlabeled and or used for part of a different show.
This Master has never been traded, copied or circulated until recently.
There is another version of this show circulating as a complete Master,
however it was recorded in the front row and lacks clarity.
This version has what the other does not since it was recorded in the balcony
offers crisp highs and a balanced mix of instruments for your listening pleasure.
There has been a lot of early REM shows coming out of the woodwork over the past few years.
Thank you for those who spend the time to remaster, transfer, re-speed and share.
I am always interested in REM from the 80's but my interest drops off after Green like many long time fans.
